What Does It Mean to Be a Leader Today?
08.03.2017
The book “Dirigeants, le défi de l’engagement” (“Leaders: The Challenge of Commitment”), published by the Cercle du Leadership, offers a fresh perspective on the challenges facing managers today.
Based on the work of the Cercle du Leadership, this publication highlights four new forms of commitment that leaders must now confront. As a partner of the Cercle du Leadership, Grant Alexander contributed to the writing of this work. Henri Vidalinc, its President, and Véronique Bounaud, Director of Grant Alexander HR Consulting and Leadership Development, discuss common missteps and pitfalls.
Through examples, testimonials, and concrete achievements, the book explores the challenges of these new dimensions of engagement:
Personal engagement: how to preserve physical condition, balance between professional, social, and family life, and personal values.
Female engagement: do women have access to senior responsibilities in companies? Do societal codes allow it? Is leadership gendered?
Societal engagement: what role should companies play in civic life, the environment, education, and social diversity?
Digital engagement: how can leaders keep pace when everything is changing so rapidly?
The Cercle du Leadership brings together around 200 members across a dozen partner organizations, including major industrial, service, and intellectual services companies.
It provides a space for reflection and exchange on innovative management practices, with the particularity of gathering perspectives from leaders across all business functions.
Each year, the members’ work gives rise to debates, conferences, and publications.
