Exclusive Study – The Main HR Challenges for Leaders in 2023
20.02.2023
As a partner in enhancing the performance of organizations and their leaders, the HR consulting and services group Grant Alexander shares the results of an exclusive study aimed at assessing the morale of leaders for 2023.
Capitalizing on internal talent, a priority objective for leaders in 2023!
While 2022 was marked by the phenomena of the “Great Resignation” followed by quiet quitting, prospects for 2023 are not expected to be any better: more than one in three leaders anticipate an increase in resignations this year (35%). Indeed, as early as last June, employees expressed their propensity to assert themselves, particularly during the traditional annual negotiations: more than half stated that they could resign if their supervisors refused their requests (52%).
Therefore, motivating employees to stay with the company is identified by leaders as the primary HR challenge for 2023 (60%). Strengthening team cohesion (55%), a goal already identified in September 2021, is the second priority. Workplace atmosphere constitutes a real lever that can impact employee retention… thereby encouraging them to remain loyal to their employer.
To retain employees, several HR avenues are identified by leaders. The logic of training and skills development is notably considered. Leaders thus wish, in 2023, to promote the development of their employees’ skills (66%), whether “technical” skills (45%) or “behavioral” skills (36%). Being more aligned with the expectations of the new generations is also mentioned: a quarter of them want to assign employees tasks that are more meaningful to them (27%). Leaders are equally numerous in wanting to implement more flexible working conditions (27%) or to facilitate internal mobility (25%).

METHODOLOGICAL NOTE
The study “The State of Mind of Business Leaders”, conducted for Grant Alexander, explores and analyzes leaders’ mindset, challenges, and expectations for the start of 2023. This study was carried out with a sample of 403 company leaders from Codir/Comex positions (Chairman/CEO/Manager, HR Director…). All respondents work in private-sector companies with 50 employees or more.
The sample was constructed using the quota method, based on company size, sector of activity, and region. Leader interviews were conducted by telephone using the CATI system (Computer Assisted Telephone Interview) from November 4 to 28, 2022. Any total or partial publication must use the full mention: “OpinionWay survey for Grant Alexander”, and no excerpt of the survey can be separated from this title.
OpinionWay also reminds that the results of this survey should be read taking into account margins of uncertainty: 2.1 to 4.9 points maximum for a sample of 400 respondents. OpinionWay conducted this survey following the procedures and rules of ISO 20252.
