Yet in the healthcare sector, the most strategic positions have never taken so long to fill. This paradox is worth examining.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Digital health provides one of the clearest illustrations. Take a recent assignment: the search for a Clinical Data Scientist for a company developing solutions based on clinical data and AI. The role required three capabilities that are rarely found in one person: strong expertise in machine learning, hands-on experience with clinical or biomedical data, and a thorough understanding of the constraints of a regulated environment. The ideal candidate needed to be able to work with statistical models, assess the quality of clinical data, take confidentiality requirements into account and produce analyses robust enough to be used in a medical context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The technology sector is full of highly talented data scientists, while clinical research has no shortage of experienced specialists. But people who are genuinely able to bridge the gap between these two worlds are extremely rare. In a targeted search, identifying five to ten truly qualified candidates after outreach and assessment is a realistic outcome.
